Microorganism (bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa and some algae) are essential for life in every environment. Many microorganism in the ocean and in bodies of fresh water capture energy from sunlight and store in the molecules that other organisms use as food. One of the most significant benefits are that, microorganisms provide their ability to synthesize antibiotics, a substance derived from one microorganism that kill or restrict the growth of other organisms. Several products important to human, such as interferon and growth hormone, can now be produced economically by microbes because of genetic engineering. In medicine such bacteriology, psychology, mycology, protozoology, virology, immunology, etiology, environmental microbiology beside agriculture and industrial application.
DURATION : Six Semesters (Three Years) Total Marks = 3600
Total Credit in 6 Semesters = 96 + 24 = 120

2 credit (Lab.) means at least 40 hours of lab work per semester per paper

For admission, students from Science stream with 10+2 (HS exam) or equivalent (ISC, CBSE etc.) exam will be eligible.

Practical / Project Papers : 12 papers (Total Marks = 1200; 4 Credits per semester)
Subjects covering the areas of Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Instrumentation, Microscopy, Cyto-Genetics (Karyotyping & Image analysis), Microbiology, Immunology (Electrophoresis, ELISA), Plant & Animal Tissue culture techniques, Basic Fermentation techniques (production of Enzymes, Antibiotics, Biodiesel), Molecular Biology (DNA isolation & PCR techniques, Gel documentation), Bio-informatics, Computational Biology, Recombinant DNA technology (Genetic Engineering techniques).
Students have to take Chemistry & Computer Application subjects as Compulsory for first two years (for 1st to 4th Semesters).
One project on Biodiversity should be done individually or in a group under the guidance of one faculty on any topic related to the subject after one Educational tour (Biodiversity Hotspot place) to any place of India (the duration of tour will be at least 3-5 days at the spot depending upon the information/sample collection of project work. The work will be documented & also presented by the candidate in front of externals in a seminar.
Another Lab-based project work (Dissertation) should be done individually under the guidance of one faculty on any topic related to the subject & can be recorded as dissertation & also be presented by the candidate in front of externals in a seminar.
